Authentic data source for land register information (KADVEC and KADSCAN)

The KADVEC and KADSCAN files make it possible to locate all the sites in Flanderson the basis of land registry data, with a variable (medium-scale to large-scale) accuracy.

Background

The land registry plan provides a graphic representation of the plots and buildings with its plot numbers. It is built up on the basis of a fiscal point of view, viz. to determine and establish the Land Registry income and the advance real estate tax. At the land registry these plans are available only in analog form, printed on paper or film. These plans are very intensively used, particularly by local administrations. KADVEC and KADSCAN make an electronic land registry available.

The distinction between KADSCAN and KADVEC is the format of the data provided. KADSCAN is essentially a map which has been scanned in and can be used as a photograph which can be used in your GIS system. The editing possibilities are very limited.
KADVEC is a vectoral file (a file consisting of points, lines and polygons) which can be completely edited. It is possible to zoom in on this map very closely without any loss of quality. The possibilities of KADVEC are therefore much broader than those of KADSCAN.

KADVEC is a creation of the support centre GIS-Flanders and is managed and made available by the support centre. KADVEC is currently being developed as an authentic data source.

AIM of Kadvec and Kadscan

The aims of the KADVEC and KADSCAN are:

  • To provide a single useable generic standard for land registry data (KADSCAN)
  • A single correct file with all the land registry data including geo-references (KADVEC)
